Based on a personal Diary kept for three years by
Frederick while employed by the village’s benefactor Mr Joseph Shepherd,  it explores the life and times of a small
rural village in Yorkshire during the early years of Queen Victoria’s long
reign.

The Group have also researched in depth the life for
Frederick before and after he came to Appleton and discovered an intriguing
mixture; a rise from lowly beginnings in the East End of London to a fairly
wealthy middle-class conclusion in Lincolnshire.
